HOLIDAY HOURS
Most access-control and intrusion solutions need to be aware of holidays. An intrusion system may be programmed to have
different permissions on holidays and weekends than they have on regular weekdays. Similarly access control systems may
permit access on a weekday that they may otherwise deny on a weekend or a holiday.
The Ontario Government introduced Family Day as a new statutory holiday to begin in 2008. This new holiday is the third
monday of February, and in 2008 it falls on February 18.
If your business is closed on this new holiday, you may want to program your access/intrusion system to recognize the
holiday. If you do not do this your system will consider the day to be a regular workday, granting access when it
should not.
Many businesses will observe holidays differently depending on religion
and personal choice. A company which observes Hanukkah, the Chinese New
Year or any other non-statutory holiday should be aware of how these holidays
may impact their access control and intrusion systems. Particular attention
needs to be paid with the holidays that do not fall upon the same date
every year, as these may require manual entry of holiday dates into the
system.
Under most systems, adding the new holiday schedule is a simple matter. For specific hardware instructions, please
